FAFSA DAY
I wanted to elaborate on the FAFSA day! Two representatives from Educational Services Foundation will be set up from 10:00 am to 6:00 pm. Families can make appointments every 30 minutes to receive help completing their FAFSA. You can complete it during your appointment, start it, ask questions, etc. You will want to bring your completed taxes with you if possible. To make an appointment, please call the guidance office and ask for Mrs. Cohea. She will schedule all appointments. Many of you came to the financial aid session in October where Danny spoke about completing the application for financial aid, this is what he will be helping you with that day.
MTAG
Any senior with a 2.5 GPA and 15 ACT who plans to go to college in Mississippi, should apply for MTAG. MTAG stands for Mississippi Tuition Assistance Grant and it is free money! You have to apply for it each year of college. Your freshman and sophomore years, it is $500 each year, and your last two years it is $1,000 each year. The link for more information is: http://www.mississippi.edu/riseupms/search-results.php?article_id=230 And the link to apply is: https://www.ms.gov/sfa/normalEntry.do You will need your parent's driver's license number to complete the application!
4/10 Senior Honors Program at 9:00 am
Seniors to be recognized will receive invitations; however, all seniors will attend this program. The invitations will help you know how to plan or make adjustments at work. We will recognize hall of fame, graduates of distinction and special distinction, and a few other top honors.
5/14 Senior Awards Program @ 6:30
At this program, we will recognized seniors for scholarships offered and for Center Hill awards. A copy of any scholarships offered to students should be brought to Ms. Mayo or Mrs. Cohea so this can be included in the awards program. You can also email this or take a screen shot of the award online if needed.
PROM
In order to purchase a prom ticket this year, students must first submit an application and wait for notification of approval. Guidelines for guests have changed slightly; however, only students
and graduates of DeSoto County High Schools may attend.
Please follow these instructions for ticket purchase:
1. Pick up a copy of the application and prom guidelines from the folder outside of Mrs. Eldridge's door (B5) or from a Junior officer
during break beginning Monday, January 28th.
2. Return the completed form to Mrs. Eldridge no later than Februrary 22.
3. Once you are approved, you will be notified.
4. Only then may you purchase a ticket from a Junior Officer at break.
5. Any student who did not pay a Junior fee will have that added to the cost of his or her prom ticket.
6. The last day to pay for a ticket is Friday, March 1st.
GRADUATION PRACTICE
We do not have the dates for graduation practice yet. We will have a practice at CHHS and at the DeSoto Civic Center. Both are required. Please continue to check the blog and watch for emails with an update.
Thanks,
Ms. Mayo
